Dear Marcin,
Currently our constitution doesn't allow offering membership discount to groups. We only have one flat membership fee which is the same whether you are:-a) flying, non flying,
b) live close so you can fly every day, live in London (or Poland),
c) or if you are a Student or Pensioner (yes we have many pensioners as members).
Whether that is right/wrong, unfortunately that is how it is at present, and it would take a motion at the AGM to change this - such is the bureaucracy of small clubs!
We are delighted to have you fly with us and would welcome you to the club. Currently as you may be aware the membership fees to join the club is £30 which is basically the normal fee of £20 + a new member fee of £10 to cover the extra material, sites guides etc.
However, There is a motion being raised at the club AGM in 2 weeks time to scrap the £10 joining fee. So all new members will only have to pay £20.
I think this is very unlikely to fail. So if you can wait 2 weeks, in all probability, you can all join for £20 !
The Long Mynd Soaring club is run by its members to promote and maintain the ability of members to fly various sites in the locale of the Long Mynd. The actual site of the Long Mynd take off (the field) is owned by the club, and rented out to a local farmer for grazing to raise a little money and to keep the grass short!
We are a completely non profit making club, and the membership fee of £20 is set to cover the costs of covering the clubs expenses. This includes legal fees, maintenance fees (fence/road/etc), printing sites guides, payments to other farmers for using other sites, training of club coaches, postage etc. So the membership fee covers only the actual day to day costs incurred.
So whilst we would be delighted to have you as members, currently I'm not able to offer any further discount - although I hope the thought of the reduction to £20 (if it happens) will be sufficient to have you join.
Of course, if you become members this year, you could raise a motion for the AGM next year to include a group discount - should you wish
I very much look forward to meeting you on the hill.
I fly a Yellow rigid wing hang glider - please come over and say hello.
