LADIES&GENTLEMEN,
I have finally found the time to put together the idea to organize a Paraglider Trip to Brazil, since I was asked by some friend from DFHGC in a trip to Algo 2 years ago.
It will be a 2 weeks Thermal and XC flying Experience in the Southeast of Brazil., the classic Rio-GV (Governador Valadares) route, hunting for the best weather conditions. So depending on the weather we will visit 2-3 other places along the way, Niteroi/Alfredo Chave/Correia Sampaio/Castelo/Pancas/São José do Divino, in order to get some more sensible distance legs and not make of it an arduous long trip.
It is a good idea to get some more relaxing flying conditions in the beginning in order to gear up before going into the full XC Experience in GV, especially that most of us will be very rusty after autumn and winter.
It will consist of a 1900km round trip plus distance covered on local retrieves on Alfredo Chave/Correia Sampaio/Castelo/Pancas and XC retrieves on GV, travelling on a rented minibus, with a driver in GV. We will be staying in 3* hotels and B&B, travelling from flying sites during the evenings, when possible, in order to maximise airtime.
Although this is not a cross-country course, with instructors guiding the pilots by the radio or a commercial guided paragliding trip, quite a lot of time and effort was put into it consulting with local leading paraglider instructors about best routes and general logistics. They will also be briefing us onsite about, flying conditions, XC routes, retrieves and daily weather forecasts. For peace of mind all pilots taking part on this trip should be at minimum BHPA Pilot competence level, i.e. pilots who feel confident thermaling in mild to strong conditions, self-reliant, able to take off and land autonomously, and of making their own decisions. It is also necessary to have a full paragliding insurance cover and an air band radio.
Prices
I Still need some confirmations, which I will get on the next of couple of days, but everything shows that the cost will be around £600 (R$1609) per person for 2 weeks1. That is in a group of 8, which according to my calculations was the optimum between cost reduction and maximum practical group size.
What is included:
* Bilingual guide service
* Airport transfers from/back to Rio de Janeiro
* 13 nights 3* hotel/B&B accommodation including breakfast
* Daily transport to take-off
* Briefing by local instructors
* Daily retrieve on pre-established routes in GV at the end of the day
* Local Clubs flying fees (Flycard)
* Extra activities at non-flyable days (not likely but just in case) like, beach2, water fall swim, trekking , etc.
Not included:
* Lunch, dinner, beers, etc.
* Airplane ticket. At the moment £605.
Date:
12-26 Feb 2011
Group Size:
8 pilots (6 places left)
This is not only a Paragliding Trip, but a whole cultural experience, in which you will be inevitably immersed.
Cheers,
Dymitr
